Critical Care Units:
Cardiothoracic ICU:
CVT is an 18-bed acuity adaptable unit specializing cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, and management of Intra-aortic balloon pumps, and Impella devices. Nurses develop strong assessment skills and become experts at managing drip titrations, chest tubes, and ventilators. With the acuity adaptable approach, nurses manage care of the patient requiring open heart surgery from admission through discharge. This setting provides for efficient patient care and strengthens the nurse/patient relationship. Nurse are required to obtain and maintain ACLS certification.
Coronary Care ICU:
CCU is a 12-bed intensive care unit specializing in critically ill cardiac medical patients to include STEMI’s and post-cardiac arrest patients. Nurses develop strong assessment skills, are experts in Intra-aortic balloon pump and Impella management. Nurses in this unit are experts in vasoactive drip titrations and ventilator management.
Med/Neuro ICU:
The MNU is a recently renovated 20-bed unit which provides acuity-adaptable care to medical, neurological, and surgical patients admitted to FirstHealth. The MNU was recently recognized for being CAUTI free for 2 years as well as being a Five-Star Recipient from Healthgrades for the treatment of stroke and respiratory failure. We seek to develop and maintain a highly educated registered nursing staff to meet the present and future demands of the nursing profession.
Intermediate Units:
Cardiac Specialty Unit:
The Cardiac Specialty Unit (CSU) is an intermediate cardiac unit specializing in pre- and post-procedural care. This includes patients with NSTEMI or active chest pain requiring cardiac interventions, electrophysiology abnormalities treated with ICD's or radiofrequency ablations. We manage dysrhythmias through administration and titration of cardiac drips. Nurses actively participate in bedside procedures and manage arterial access devices. CSU is a busy, fast paced unit seeking highly motivated team players looking to expand their cardiac skill set and provide optimal patient outcomes. Nurses are expected to obtain and maintain ACLS certification.
2-Reid Unit:
2-Reid is a 12-bed intermediate care unit specializing in the care of patients with moderate to severe medical and cardiac diagnoses such as sepsis, acute respiratory failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, NSTEMI, atrial fibrillation/flutter and CHF. Nurses on this unit utilize a broad skill set, initiate and titrate drips that require cardiac monitoring and assist with bedside procedures such as transesophageal echocardiograms and cardioversions.
Qualifications:
- Valid NC RN License or Compact State RN License required.
- Acute Care experience preferred. ACLS and BCLS required.
