Lifeguard
Overview
Performs all duties necessary to maintain a safe and clean aquatic environment.
Performs water rescues and administers First Aid and CPR as needed.
Performs cleaning and maintenance task.
Responsibilities
Uses an appropriate problem-solving approach to plan performance of service
- Performs the primary functions of an American Red Cross Lifeguard, maintaining a safe and clean environment and responding to all emergencies, properly and effectively.
- Secures a substitute for shifts that need to be covered as well as sign appropriate forms.
- Adhere to all Aquatics policies and procedures.
- Participates in staff training and meetings according to policy.
Provides services with consideration of physical, psycho-social, cultural/spiritual, and age specific needs to those served.
- Acknowledge and demonstrates respect for individualized needs of all customers.
- Adjusts and responds to requests for special considerations.
- Aids customers in entering and exiting facilities as needed.
Uses equipment/supplies correctly.
- Demonstrates the proper use of all facility rescue equipment, cleaning equipment and Aquatic Center supplies.
- Completes all assigned cleaning and maintenance assignments.
- Maintains clean facilities at all times.
- Records accurate chemical reading, usage, and uses appropriate paperwork for all shift changes, incidents, and requests.
Uses appropriate safety and infection control measures.
- Demonstrates the proper and appropriate use of barrier devices, rescue equipment, and protective gear.
- Responds to symptoms of choking, drowning, tiredness, etc.
- Keeps working conditions safe and clean for all other staff members.
- Follow proper chemicals usage procedures.
Teaches/directs/advises/informs others in an appropriate manner
- Communicates properly and effectively to patrons and other staff.
- Teaches proper swimming rules, technique, and policies.
- Enforces all policies and procedures, Aquatic and Center wide.
- Attempt to answer or find answers to all questions from customers and staff.
Reports/records information correctly
- Demonstrates and communicates abnormal facility conditions, incidents and accidents properly.
- Completes daily log information and Chemical records.
- Record updates/ changes in the communication book as needed.
- Reads and initials all entries in communication book during each worked shift.
Qualifications
Must have the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate.
Must be certified in Basic Life Support for the Professional Rescuer and Community First Aid or equivalents.
Should have a minimum of one year experience in aquatics
