Position Summary

FirstHealth of the Carolinas is a nationally recognized health care system located in central North Carolina. Responsibilities

Bereavement Counselor Job Summary

  • Responsible for assistance in provision of bereavement services for hospice families and community at large to include: grief counseling services, development and facilitation of support groups, provide community education, public speaking and consultation to other community agencies to address issues of grief and loss, participate in planning of and attendance at special community activities for grief and bereavement
  • Assesses psychosocial and bereavement needs to determine client/family psychosocial functioning, including strengths, coping skills and supports, stage of processing grief/loss issues, self perceptions, etc.
  • Collaborates with other IDG members to develop plan of care based on psychosocial/bereavement assessment.

Qualifications

Bereavement Counselor Qualifications

  • A Masters degree in Social Work or Human Relations (psychology, counseling, divinity, education, etc.)
  • LCSW or LCSW-A preferred
  • LCSW-A required within one year of employment
  • At least two year’s recent experience in medical social work or counseling.
  • Valid NC driver’s license
