Emergency Medicine Pharmacist
Position Summary
The Emergency Medicine Pharmacist is a visible and integrated member of the multidisciplinary emergency department responsible for a variety of activities that improve the medication use process and patient safety. The patient population includes both adults and pediatrics. The pharmacist must be comfortable in operating in a fast-paced emergency department environment and able to adjust to changes in workload while maintaining a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
The emergency medicine services at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital (MRH). This 402-bed flagship hospital has a 40-bed emergency department, with the ability to expand to 47 when including hallway beds and sees more than 60,000 patients annually. Located in central North Carolina, MRH services a primary area including six counties, and is a secondary referral center for 15 counties. In addition to MRH, the system has three other campuses: MRH-Richmond, MRH-Hoke, and Montgomery Memorial Hospital, all of which provide emergency services. The emergency medicine physician group services all 4 campuses and services are occasionally provided to these other sites as well.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include responding to code blues throughout the hospital, actively taking a role in medication preparation and management of patients in high-risk patient populations (including but not limited to STEMI, acute ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, rapid sequence intubation, procedural sedation). Clinical activities including dosing of antimicrobials, anticoagulants, culture callbacks on discharged patients, etc. Oversight of medication reconciliation technicians and reviewing home medication lists after completion by the technicians along with precepting PGY1 and PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Resident are responsibilities that will be fulfilled in this role.
Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited school of pharmacy
Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of NC
PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency or equivalent hospital experience required
PGY2 residency training or equivalent emergency medicine and/or critical care training is preferred
