Overview
A HIM (Health Information Management) Coordinator manages and maintains patient health information, ensuring its accuracy, security, and accessibility.They play a crucial role in protecting patient data, complying with regulations like HIPAA and managing both electronic and hard copy records
Responsibilities
The HIM Coordinator must possess a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of EMR documentation and related workflows as needed to investigate and manage priority workflow issues on their designated shift effectively and independently. This may include chart documentation corrections, documentation upload errors and assisting to ensure critical shift priorities are consistently completed within required timeframes. The HIM Coordinator is also responsible for working designated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation follow-up queues, In Basket follow-up messages, upload errors and related tasks during their assigned shift.
Qualifications
Associate degree in Health Information Management or equivalent EMR/IT training and/or experience preferred. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a health information management or information systems setting with solid working knowledge of key health information functions and workflows. Demonstrated working or educational knowledge of EMR documentation requirements with hands on experience in an EMR environment including indexing, uploading, linking and otherwise resolving documentation upload errors and issues. Preference to RHIAs or RHITs.

- Monitors workflow by effectively managing and organizing staff to meet turnaround times and project deadlines.
- Monitors and analyzes performance and productivity to ensure standards and goals are met.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with medical staff and other hospital departments to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Ability to provide oversight for correct indexing of documents to the appropriate patient folder and team understanding of document naming.
- Ability to train staff on new or updated processes and workflows to ensure comprehension and reason.
