Company Police Lieutenant Detective
Overview
Performs responsible specialized law enforcement work supervising the activities of the investigation’s unit and patrol operations in the Police Department and participates in the investigation and solution of crimes and the apprehension and prosecution of persons suspected of committing crimes.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and conducts initial and follow-up investigations of criminal incidents to encompass the full range of criminal investigations and crimes including death scenes, narcotics, felonies and major misdemeanors; interviews persons in connection with criminal incidents including victims, witnesses, and suspects; secures crime scenes; obtains warrants, subpoenas and search warrants.
- Collects, establishes chain of custody, and preserves physical evidence; processes evidence through on-site identification technology and use of state and local laboratories; maintains records of evidence; returns stolen property to victims, when possible, acts as evidence custodian.
- Writes and executes warrants, subpoenas, and court orders.
- Prepares and reviews written reports of investigative activities; arrests offenders; prepares documents for district attorney and presentations to court; testifies in court regarding investigative activities.
- Establishes effective contacts with the public, informants, coworkers, district attorney staff, and other law enforcement departments to gain information related to criminal activities; conducts surveillance and develops leads.
- Operates cameras, specialized surveillance equipment, crime scene processing equipment, and crime/wreck scene mapping equipment.
- Conducts surveillance and cooperates with other law enforcement agencies to investigate, locate, apprehend, and arrest offenders.
- Supervise patrol operations for assigned campus and assist with overall direction of the public safety department as required.
- Serves as Police Officer as needed, responding to calls for services and enforcing laws
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school and considerable experience in law enforcement work, supplemented by special training in investigations work and supervisory training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice or related field.
Possession of a valid NC driver's license. Certification by the North Carolina Justice Training and Standards Commission as a law enforcement officer. Prefer advanced law enforcement certification.
